The interesting tale of Kate McNiven, who in 1715, was one of the last "witches" to be burnt in Scotland.
"What were the precise points of evidence is equally a mystery : I do wish they were on record : probably the villainous bee at Dunning and the unfortunate thorn affair, were the weightiest charges. In the meantime, the poor woman was doubtless subjected to hardships and privations, which may have deprived her of the last flickerings of reason, or perhaps have made her glad to confess anything."
