Eleanor Roosevelt's prayer

Dear Lord,

Lest I continue my complacent way,
help me to remember,
somewhere out there a man died for me today.
As long as there be war,
I must ask and answer am I worth dying for?

Eleanor Roosevelt's prayer, which she like to tell people about. Clearly she did think
her privileged existence was well-worth other people fighting and dying for.

"She [Eleanor Roosevelt] and her sons [she said] refused to live in a world such as ours. That
is at least understandable, for ours is world of work and not one of deceit and racketeering."

— Adolf Hitler, December 11, 1941
